To the East and West of Tbilisi serves as a dynamic guide, a land map to the artistic and cultural movements flowing through the Caucasus and the neighboring regions to the east and west of Tbilisi, Georgia. Colonization brought in by the Soviet regime in 1920s has tried to unified this culture into one coherent and easy-to-manage cultural field, yet culture was the driving force of the resistance that helped to overcome the oppression. Today we see the repetition of this cycle and again culture and the arts are to serve as unifying forces of resistances.

To the East and West of Tbilisi explores where artists from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, etc. are currently being presented in the West, highlights recently published books about the region, and tracks upcoming exhibitions and events in the cultural spaces within the region. Framed through a Western lens, this resource maps the evolving creative landscape of a historically rich and diverse area. In time, this page will serve as an archive and documentation hub for researchers, curators, and scholars of the region.
